SAFIRE is excited to be part of implementing partners in the new Scaling up Community Action for Livelihoods and Ecosystems in Southern Africa and Beyond (CBA-SCALE Southern Africa+). The new project which was launched on the 29th of February 2024 in Harare realises that to support groups most impacted by climate change, community-based adaptation provides livelihood opportunities for communities suffering from climatic shocks.
The funding partners of this new project are the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development together with the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The project will be implemented by several partners, namely: the Government of Zimbabwe, Care Zimbabwe, International Institute for Sustainable Development, SAFIRE, IUCN Zimbabwe, Cesvi and ICRISA.
Distinguished dignitaries graced the project launch. Among them was the Zimbabwe Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, the Ambassador of Germany to Zimbabwe, and the Head of Division – European and International Adaptation to Climate Change in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection for the Germany Government.
A three-day consortium inception meeting for the project was recently conducted in Masvingo. The main objectives of this meeting were to unpack the project and Consortia Roles and capacitate exchange on operation and support. Partners present included; the Government of Zimbabwe, Care Zimbabwe, International Institute for Sustainable Development, SAFIRE, IUCN Zimbabwe, Cesvi and ICRISAT.
