SAFIRE, a local NGO whose mission is to facilitate the development and application of innovative approaches to improve rural livelihoods, resilience and sustainable natural resources management is seeking  suitably qualified and experienced applicants to fill the positions of Team Leaders for, (i)Agriculture and Market Linkages (ii) Natural Resource Management/Ecology

Position: Team Leader Agriculture and Market Linkages
The Team Leader, Agriculture and Market Linkages is responsible for developing and
overseeing implementation of Agriculture and Livelihoods programmes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the development and implementation of agricultural programmes that complement the organisation’s main focal areas of natural resources management and
    rural households resilience building including adaptation to climate change
  • Design procedures and strategies for rehabilitating small-scale irrigation schemes and improving productivity and income generation from the same
  • Develop and design projects, strategies and procedures for linking smallholder farmers to markets and the mainstream economy
  • Develop and implement projects and strategies aimed at improving household food and nutrition security and overall household resilience
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of livelihood
    improvement programmes that integrate all organisation’s programmes
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of agricultural market linkages programmes
  • Develop and maintain relationships with partners including NGOs, Public and rural advisory service providers and international partners
  • Manage project and administrative budgets and enforcement of compliance and accountability for resources while guiding staff in preparing progress and final
    reports
  • Prepare, produce and submit to donors, well researched, documented and presented project proposals that are relevant to the organisation’s main goals and activities
  • Coordinate implementation of special projects
  • Provide appropriate training to Field Officers and partner staff in agricultural techniques and community-based extension approaches
  • Prepare and produce training material (manuals, notes) progress reports and occasional technical papers on issues related to the organisation’s work
  • Undertake organizational consultancy work as required by management from time to time
  • Prepare well-documented monthly progress reports based on agreed monthly progress reporting format by the 25th of every month
  • Manage staff under the programme
  • Undertake other duties required, as requested by the Director.

Required education and experience:

A degree in Agricultural Sciences, or any other related discipline. An MSc and experience in community development will be an added advantage. Experience in statistical analysis, natural resource management and business development and enterprise will be an added advantage. 5 years relevant working experience
after graduation. Experience in Project Management.

Position: Team Leader, Natural Resources Management/Ecology

The Team Leader, Natural Resources Management/Ecology is responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of Natural Resources and Environmental Management programmes, ecological assessments and monitoring procedures and development of innovative approaches to natural resources management and utilization.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure ecological viability of interventions, adoption of environmentally friendly technologies and use benign extraction methods throughout the organization
  • Design procedures and conduct resource inventory, evaluation, audits and assessments for wildlife, forest and woodland-based resources
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of adaptive management procedures for natural resources
  • Design and implement ecological monitoring systems including determination and monitoring of extraction rates and resource stocking levels for sustainable harvesting regimes
  • Develop procedures and implement ecological impact evaluations; Develop and maintain relationships with partners including NGOs, Public and rural advisory service providers, and international partners
  • Manage project and administrative budgets and enforce compliance and accountability for resources while guiding staff in preparing progress and final reports;
  • Prepare, produce and submit to donors, well researched, documented and presented project proposals that are relevant to the organisation’s main goals and activities; Coordinate implementation of special projects
